Turning 25 was a big thing , but turning 26 is when the age really hits. Sure people may say that you are still young, have a long way to go, etc. But the realization that you are already quarter way through your life, there is a lot that hits you.
Being an average person, having a decent job in this economy , yet it still feels empty. Not that life is going pathetic, but you can’t deny the slight creases showing upon your face, decreasing metabolic rate, visible generation gap and changing definition of “cool”.
I guess the first thing that you have to accept is that you would no longer be considered as a “young adult” , given the fact that you are approaching your 30s(which is a whole different story).
With all the added responsibilities , people around you either getting married, having kids, changing into their dream jobs , possibly completing a higher degree in another country. Looking at all of this at once sure gets overwhelming, questioning yourself as to where you are. That's when the Quarter Life Crisis is there to greet you.
Want to be settled yet want to be independent , want to change jobs but economy or some other problems , etc. The list is endless. But I guess the maturity that you get is a decent trade-off. Understanding the so called “real” world of living, surviving and trying to find happiness in the smallest of things, even if its buying a new mug or groceries for the week.
Learning to deal with unprecedented situations, increased patience, learning to love yourself(atleast try to), being ok with failing, better at hiding emotions, path to become independent is something we have to go through, which makes us “older” and “wiser”.
Hopefully it’s not that bad after all. Not that we can’t stop growing, trying to go with the flow and give the best is all we can hope for!
Getting old isn't easy, but staying young forever isn't an option either.
